What 556 Volunteers Can Accomplish

The eighth year of water chestnut removal came to a close this month. Over the course of 13 events, 556 amazing volunteers worked from canoes to hand-pull more than 57 tons of invasive plant material from the Mystic River and Arlington Reservoir. Thanks to all who lent a hand!

A Victory for Clean Water: Citizen Science Data Leads to Change

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued an Administrative Order on Consent with the Town of Belmont over years of water quality damages. Over the next five years the town has agreed to make a significant investment in repairs to its storm water system.

Mystic River Park Improvements Launched

On Thursday, October 6, 2016 the Mystic River Watershed Association and Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) kicked-off a series of improvements to Torbert Macdonald Park in Medford. Revitalization projects include newly paved paths, phragmities removal, a volunteer stewardship program – and future amenities such as a river overlook and picnic area.
