Join our data-sprint to help us understand the reliability of in-person versus video counts of the river herring migration in the Mystic River. 

The Kennebec River in Maine - like here in the Mystic - opened up passageways resulting in increased spawning habitat for this important forage fish. 

A new project led by the Mystic River Watershed Association is broadcasting the river herring migration in the Mystic River this spring, and you are needed to help make it a success.  A motion-sensor underwater video camera at the Upper Mystic Lake dam fish ladder in Medford now records the herring migration 24 hours a day. 

On April 5, 2017 the Mystic River Watershed Association, together with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries and Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, installed an underwater video camera at the Upper Mystic Lake dam in Medford. 

Meet MyRWA's Herring Education intern, Emma Arnesty-Good. The San Francisco native and white-water rafting guide recently graduated from Tufts University with a degree in American Studies. She is now leading the way on a new program on the Mystic by working with teachers to bring the herring migration to classrooms throughout the watershed.
