Arlington, MA—The Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA), a Greater-Boston environmental organization, is pleased to announce new officers to the Board of Directors. Shannon Ames, President, Nasser Brahim, Vice President, Charles Holley, Treasurer, and Britney Satterlee, Secretary, are esteemed regional leaders and will guide MyRWA’s work to protect and restore the watershed for more than 600,000 residents of Mystic River communities.
“I am excited to serve on the Board of Directors for the Mystic River Watershed Association as the new President. Serving during a time of racial reckoning and environmental injustice—I know we have a lot of work to do. There’s a lot of potential at MyRWA to make a real impact for the people and places in our watershed and I am looking forward to the challenge,” said Shannon Ames, President.
Shannon Ames (she/her/hers), who is a second term board member, serves as the Executive Director of the Low Impact Hydropower Institute (LIHI), located in Arlington, Massachusetts. Prior to joining LIHI, Shannon worked as the director of stakeholder and government relations for Brookfield Renewable Energy Group. Combined with her years working in IT project management, non-profit management, and human resources, she has a broad skill set in organizational management. Shannon also has experience on boards including having served for six years as trustee for the Waldorf School of Lexington (two as board president), and as board member for the Independent Power Producers of NY, New England Power Generators Association, the Brookfield US Foundation, and Riverside Boat Club. Shannon has a BA from Colby College and an MBA in public and non-profit management from Boston University.
“As we approach our 50-year anniversary, MyRWA is adapting the ways we deliver our mission in response to the social and environmental challenges of our times. I am honored to join the Board’s executive leadership at this pivotal moment, and excited to help guide our strategic initiatives with creativity, diversity, and a passion for resilience,” said Nasser Brahim, Vice President.
Nasser Brahim (he/him/his), who is serving his first term, is a Senior Climate Resiliency Specialist at Woods Hole Group, an engineering, science, and technology firm focused on solving coastal and environmental challenges. He holds a Master of Environmental Management from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies and focused as an undergraduate on ecology and integrated water resources management. Prior to joining Woods Hole Group, Nasser was at Kleinfelder, a multidisciplinary engineering and design firm in Boston.
Shannon and Nasser will be joined in the leadership of the organization by two new board members: Charles Holley as Treasurer and Britney Slaterlee as Secretary. Charles Holley (he/him/his) is a finance professional with over twenty years of experience between the private, public and nonprofit sectors. Most recently, he was the Director of Finance and Administration at Boston Harbor Now and former CFO of Dudley Street Neighbor Initiative. He is a graduate of Johnson & Wales where he earned a degree in accounting. Britney Satterlee (she/her/hers) is a Manager in PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP's Abandoned and Unclaimed Property practice. Britney holds a B.A. from Smith College and is a resident of Somerville.
“Shannon, Nasser, Charles and Britney bring expert talent and a breadth of experience to our board. We are certain their leadership will propel our mission to protect and restore the Mystic River Watershed Association,” said Patrick Herron, Executive Director of MyRWA.
The Mystic River Watershed Association was founded in 1972 to protect and restore natural resources in the 22-community watershed north of Boston. MyRWA is led by professional staff and also organizes thousands of volunteers working together on a project-by-project basis. Shannon, Nasser, Charles, and Britney join the 13 sitting board members. The board is charged with organizational oversight, leadership in strategic planning and connecting to the wider community.
