Students Thinking About Ocean Pollution

Environmental Education: Listen to local students

Most ocean plastic begins its journey on land.  Plastic and other trash gets washed into waterways through storm drains or is blown into the water by wind—plastic is then carried along by water in rivers which then empty into oceans.  Recently, we were able to talk with Somerville 6th grade students about this connection between stormwater and ocean plastic.

What do the students want you to know? Ocean plastic is a big problem. People can make a difference!  Pick up plastic trash—and don’t let it get into the river.
