If you’ve taken a walk anytime in the past 2 weeks it’s clear to see the value of our local parks and paths. Of course, we’d rather be with you in person on Earth Day to celebrate these special places and clean up our parks, but alas since we cannot, we are pivoting towards other ways to give back. We can still give our parks and paths the TLC they deserve!
On your next walk or run see how much litter you can remove. Take a picture each time. Post it and share it with us on social media using #MysticTrashtag. Don’t use social media, you can email your photos to volunteer@mysticriver.org. If you’re feeling so inclined, take a selfie so we can encourage more people to get involved! The person who picks up the most litter will be crowned MyRWA’s Ecofest winner during our Earth Day virtual celebration on 4/24 and will receive a $40 Aeronaut Brewing gift card for your post-quarantine libations.
How to get involved? If you are comfortable going out and picking up trash:
Pick up litter on your walks/runs. Put safety first. Make sure to wear gloves, follow physical distancing rules, and refrain from picking up sharp objects. Again, please only do what you are comfortable with.
Take a picture of the trash (and yourself if you’re so inclined).
Post on Instagram using #MysticTrashTag and tagging us @Mystic.River.Watershed // or on Facebook, tagging @MysticRiverWatershedAssoc. If you’re not no social media you can email the photos to volunteer@mysticriver.org.
