Mystic earth month

Join MyRWA as we celebrate the 51st Anniversary of Earth Day–with a month full of activities.

Once a year, over a billion people from around the world come together to honor and advocate for our planet’s health. For over 50 years, Earth Day — which falls on April 22 — has served as the catalyst for essential conversations about the health of our planet and the work that needs to be done to better preserve its natural environments and ecosystems. This year's theme is Invest in Our Planet–something that we want to do all month long with you!

We will be sharing some great ways to get involved — from nominating your parks to sharing your pictures to actions you can take! MyRWA will keep you engaged throughout Earth Month in caring for our watershed!

Want to get started right now?

NOMINATE A PARK

We all see places that can use some TLC. Nominate a park or path for a trash cleanup to help inform our cleanup locations this spring and summer!

JOIN US FOR OUR PARK SERVE DAY CLEANUP (OR HOST YOUR OWN)!

As part of the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Annual Park Serve Day, we will be hosting a cleanup along the Mystic at Torbert Macdonald Park in Medford. The cleanup will be on Saturday, April 23rd from 9am to 12pm, click the link below to register!

CALLS TO ACTION

There are so many ways to get involved and push for improvements to the Mystic. We will be sharing these throughout the month! Want to get a jump on your calls now? Right now, our elected state representatives and state senators are meeting with their constituents and State House leadership to decide on what goes in and what stays out of next year's state budget, which starts on July 1st, 2022. GET SNAPPING (Pictures that is)!

Let’s celebrate the beauty of nature in our backyard! During the third week of April, we will be highlighting some great pictures of the Mystic River watershed and we want you to share too! During April 18 - 24, share your favorite photos of the watershed from the past year and tag us to be featured on MyRWA social media!

Not on social media? Email your picture to daria.clark@mysticriver.org , and we will share on our Instagram. Let’s show people why they should care!

Need inspiration? We love to see shots of people enjoying the outdoors (biking on greenways, recreating on the river, having a picnic, etc.), wildlife in the Mystic, your favorite parks and paths, as well as examples of pollution (such as trash) that you see in the watershed.

BE READY FOR SOME GREAT STEM CONTENT

Our newest staff member, Natalia Bayona, will be sharing some great trivia and STEM content about the Mystic! Keep your eyes peeled for some great, interactive content during the fourth week of the month.

RSVP now for our Lunch & Learn on Thursday, April 28th 12pm to 1pm all about the Trash Free Mystic program! You will hear from Andy Hrycyna, Watershed Scientist, and Sushant Bajracharya, Mystic Ambassador, about trash in the Mystic, and what MyRWA is doing about it.
