As we approach the end of July, let's unite with millions of people worldwide and take small yet significant steps to combat plastic pollution! 💪
Ready to make a difference? Join the challenge by signing up at https://www.plasticfreejuly.org/take-the-challenge/ and become a part of the global movement for a cleaner, greener planet.
Here's how you can get involved locally:
Recycle Right: Recycling plays a crucial role in waste reduction, Make sure your’ following the correct recycling guidelines in your area to ensure that recyclable materials don’t end up in the landfill. Every municipality in our watershed has a different waste management system, learn about your city/town-specific trash collection program here.
Get involved in our Adopt-a-Drain Program: The Mystic River Watershed Association, in coordination with 10 municipalities and with Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (Mass DEP) funding, launched the Adopy-a-Drain program. Through this program, you can sign up to adopt a storm drain close to your home or your work and maintain the drain before or after heavy rain, wind, and snow. Learn more here.
Sign up for Self-Guided Clean up: Each time it rains, trash takes an unexpected journey from the side of the road into our waterways, as part of stormwater pollution. Stormwater (rain) washes everything on the streets into our stormwater system, which releases -- you guessed it -- into our rivers. By removing litter from parks and paths, you are reducing the amount of trash that ends up in the water (think: saving ducks, turtles, and whales from eating or getting caught in trash!) Get involved here.
