A new fish ladder is being constructed at the Winchester Center Falls dam, and is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
The project is a collaborative river restoration effort among the Town of Winchester, companies charged with cleaning up the Aberjona watershed, and the Division of Marine Fisheries for Massachusetts. The project was spearheaded by concerned Winchester residents who have advocated for a healthy river environment. The project will include features for monitoring fish migration on site and remotely. The underwater video camera will feed into the Mystic River Watershed Association's new Herring Education Project, which launches in spring 2017.
