mystic river to minuteman path
A safe, off-road walking and biking route along Mystic Valley Parkway in Arlington, Medford, Somerville and Winchester.
The Mystic to Minuteman project envisions a safe, off-road walking and biking route along Mystic Valley Parkway from the Alewife Brook Greenway, along the Lower Mystic Lake to the Minuteman Bikeway in Arlington. With a MassTrails grant and in partnership with the Town of Arlington and the Department of Conversation and Recreation (DCR), MyRWA completed the Mystic River Path to Minuteman Bikeway Feasibility Study.
The length of the project is approximately 1.7 miles and included the redesign of the rotaries at Route 60/Mystic Valley Parkway in Arlington and Medford, and the intersection of Mystic Street/Summer Street/Mystic Valley Parkway, with the goal of improving safety and access for people walking and biking.
Public engagement was a critical part of developing the study and included three public meetings, two public surveys, one focus group meeting, and one community meeting. Summaries of the public engagement are included in the main narrative and detailed in the report appendices. Recordings and presentation slides of the three public meetings can be found below.
The next step after this feasibility study is to continue design by the two landowners, the Town of Arlington and DCR. In late 2022, a $1 Million Federal Earmark was received from Congresswoman Katherine Clark for this work as part of the Resilient Mystic Collaborative initiative.
