Underpass in Somerville connecting Blessing of the Bay to Baxter State Park and Assembly Row.
A proposed boardwalk under Route 28 in Medford will connect the paths along the Mystic River, specifically Torbert MacDonald Park, Station Landing/Wellington T-Station and the Wellington Greenway. The design will be similar to the underpass on the Somerville side of the Route 28 bridge (photo on right). When built, this project will fill a gap in the area’s greenway network, encourage recreation and mobility along the Mystic River and provide a safe alternative to crossing Route 28 and at Wellington Circle.
MyRWA and the City of Medford co-led the Wellington/Route 28 Underpass development process through the 25% design phase. The City are continuing to work with MassDOT and DCR on 100% design and permitting, which is expected to be completed by Fall 2024.
