Come paint a fish or two for Arlington’s newest public art project. Join us on Sunday, June 7 from 10 am to 12 pm at Mystic Open Studio, 785 Mass Avenue, Arlington.
Mystic Open Studio and ArtsArlington invite you to paint a fish or two for Arlington’s newest public art project, celebrating the herring of the Mystic River.
Join us for this free workshop on Sunday, June 7 from 10 am to 12 pm at Mystic Open Studio in Arlington, led by public arts curator Cecily Miller. All materials will be supplied. Ages 6 and up are welcome. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
This project celebrates the courageous herring that swim upstream from the ocean every year to spawn. A combination of advocacy by the Mystic River Watershed Association and its volunteers, government regulation, and new fish ladders have increased the population of these once endangered fish.
ArtsArlington will install 2,000 individually painted herring on the brick walls of the Fox Library and surrounding storefronts to celebrate the protection of urban waterways and wildlife, creativity and community.
Go Fish is supported by a grant from the Mass Cultural Council and donations from AlumiGraphics Smooth by FloorSignage, LLC and Blick Art Supplies.
