It’s been a while since we’ve given an update on the Blessing of the Bay Park Here is the latest on the project: while the larger park investments are in the works, a temporary ecological art installation will be built at the boathouse to engage and educate local residents about their natural world, as well as help influence the final design and implementation of the park.
Stop by at any time and create something great with us! The artwork is meant to be a collaborative piece built by community members across Somerville. All are welcome to participate in the installation. No experience necessary. We will bring snacks and music.
“Living Tapestry” will be a unique representation of the significance biodiversity brings to wildlife habitat in urban parks. The art installation will highlight the diversity and abundance of tree species in Blessing of the Bay Park through a colorful display of woven Oriental bittersweet vines extended across the boathouse. Each woven vine will represent an individual tree and each color will correspond to a tree species. This project is funded by the Somerville Arts Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the BSA Foundation.
