*ONLINE ONLY* Horn Pond Herring Monitoring Training

  • Woburn Public Library 45 Pleasant Street Woburn, MA, 01801 United States (map)

In light of the continued spread of COVID-19 both the Mystic Lakes and Horn Pond herring monitoring trainings will be online only. All other MyRWA events are cancelled through April 15th--and we will continue to monitor the situation and adjust accordingly.

You can access the training on Saturday 3/14 at 10 AM one of three ways:

  1. Use this link for a live webinar & ability to ask questions in real-time.

  2. Visit our Facebook page and watch the training live.

  3. Watch the recorded training at a later date (will be posted after the fact).

If you are a new monitor and still have questions after the virtual training session, I'm happy to schedule a phone call. I will send more information about the Horn Pond training in the coming days.

Information and registration for the herring monitoring program below.

Calling all citizen scientists! Help the Herring!

Each spring over 1/2 million river herring migrate from the ocean up the Mystic River to the Mystic Lakes and to Horn Pond. If lined up back-to-back, this would measure up to 100 miles of fish!

The more we know about the river herring the better equipped we are to advocate for a clean and healthy Mystic River, and for this unique species and the wildlife it supports (you can thank the river herring for the return of the Bald Eagles to the Mystic Lakes--they're a great food source for eagles).

You are invited to participate in this spectacular wildlife migration by monitoring the herring once a week for 10 minutes at Horn Pond. Monitoring occurs from 7am-7pm everyday during the migration season (April-June). Interested? Register below. Only registered monitors should attend the training.

This training will provide all details you need to be a monitor. Only registered herring monitors should attend the training.
