Malden Works Kick-Off Event

  • Malden Senior Center 7 Washington Street Malden, MA, 02148 United States (map)

Malden Works is a new project in the city of Malden.  We are building a coalition of community leaders of color, youth, environmental advocates, and government officials as well as designers—eager for community input. With your help, the Malden River waterfront can become a park for public enjoyment and recreation.  We also will improve our river’s wildlife habitat and our city’s flood resiliency.

WHAT: Public kick-off event to begin the community conversation about the future of Malden’s waterfront. Alexie Torres, a nationally sought-after speaker, will begin the evening program. She will share her story of creating a community-driven movement to revitalize parks along the Bronx River.

WHEN: Monday, October 21 at 6:30 pm

WHERE Malden Senior Center, 7 Washington St, Malden, MA

ALEXIE TORRES is an award-winning speaker, activist, community organizer, advocate and urban planner from the South Bronx, NY. Alexie co-founded the Bronx River Alliance and the Southern Bronx River Watershed Alliance. During her tenure, the organization cleaned-up abandoned industrial sites, expanded the Bronx River greenway, and developed green infrastructure. However, her greatest pride is in the legacy of power and leadership assumed by community residents.

This project builds off of MyRWA’s Malden River Greenway Vision Plan and is made possible through a generous grant from the MIT Norman B. Leventhal Center for Advanced Urbanism, which has awarded the Malden Works team with the first ever Norman B. Leventhal City Prize for equitable resilience.
