In 1980, artist Paul Matisse installed Musical Fence, an interactive sound sculpture, on the city streets of Cambridge, Massachusetts. The tuned aluminum chimes of the Musical Fence invited passersby to ring them as they walked along, or to stop, stand, and take a moment to play them more deliberately. The community loved the fence-and it now resides within the walls of the DeCordova Sculpture Park, in Lincoln, MA.
The Pickup Music Project (PuMP) is reviving Matisse's musical fence in the Greater Boston area with an installation at Torbert Macdonald Park in Medford, MA. Thank you to the Medford Arts Council, Commonwealth Places, a collaborative initiative from MassDevelopment and Patronicity, and our amazing community of supporters, for making these two musical fences a reality in Torbert Macdonald Park!
Since 2017, MyRWA has been working in partnership with DCR to improve Macdonald Park and we are delighted to be a part of this project. Help us celebrate this exciting installation at a ribbon cutting.
