The second public meeting for the Malden River Greenway Vision Plan kicked-off with a welcome address at the Tufts Boat House, overlooking the river. The mayors of Malden and Medford, and Everett’s Chief of Staff, celebrated the success of River’s Edge and reiterated their commitment to creating a riverfront path and park system meeting this high standard of development.

The goal of this meeting, held on August 8th, was to share and receive feedback on initial concept designs for the Malden River Greenway – these include new parks, bridges, areas for boating and better bike and pedestrian connections from the surrounding neighborhoods. The nearly 70 attendees organized into small groups, drawing and writing on the design plans.

One note made by a participant – “we’re not aiming high enough” – summed up the current state of the river and potential of this vision plan to set a new trajectory. We need to ask more of developers, municipalities and from each other to transform the Malden River, making it a world-class waterfront park system for all who live, work and play nearby.
