MYSTIC RIVER WATERSHED
The Mystic River Watershed covers 76 square miles or roughly 1% of the land area of Massachusetts. It includes all the land area that drains into the Mystic River. Its headwaters begin in Reading, MA and form the Aberjona River, then flow into the Upper Mystic Lake in Winchester. From the Lower Mystic Lake, the Mystic River flows through Arlington, Somerville, Medford, Everett, Chelsea, Charlestown, and East Boston before emptying into Boston Harbor.
WATER QUALITY MAP
Each year the US Environmental Protection Agency issues a water quality grade for waterbodies in the watershed. Grades are based on bacterial data over a three year period.
URBAN TRAIL MAP & ACTIVITY GUIDE

The Urban Trail Map & Activity Guide, available in English and Spanish, aims to improve access from neighborhoods and transit centers to waterfront parks and open space areas within the Mystic River Watershed as well as increase usage of recreational land. The map and guide was funded by the Massachusetts Environmental Trust.
MYSTIC RIVER ENVIRONMENTAL ATLAS
The Mystic River Environmental Atlas is an interactive map featuring water quality data, recreational opportunities, accessibility and physiography about the watershed. This project was a collaboration with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC).
US EPA MAPS
The US Environmental Protection Agency has a series of maps as part of the Mystic River Watershed Initiative.
