WATERSHED CLEAN-UPS

River clean-ups are a fun and rewarding experience! MyRWA typically hosts or partners with other organizations to participate in spring-time river clean-ups. If you would like to host a river clean-up please contact us and we’ll be sure to help spread the word!

 

MYSTIC RIVER EARTH DAY CLEANUP

Join MyRWA for our annual river cleanup on Saturday, April 25 from 9:00 a.m. to noon! Volunteers should meet at the DCR Torbert MacDonald Park parking lot off of Mystic Valley Parkway/Route 16 in Medford. MYSTIC COMMUNITY EARTH DAY 2015

Calling all volunteers! Community groups from across the watershed have joined together for the sixth consecutive year to coordinate Mystic Community Earth Day. The official Earth Day is April 22nd, but we’ve scheduled events to be family and work friendly on Saturday, April 25th, May 2nd and May 9th in Arlington, Cambridge, Chelsea, Malden, Medford, Somerville, Revere and Winchester. Groups are welcome at these family-friendly events!

ARLINGTON

Menotomy Rocks Park is hosting a family event on Saturday, May 2nd, 12:00–3:00 p.m. to celebrate Earth Day. Helpers are also welcome: help make leaf pledges explaining how one would help preserve and respect our earth, help with scavenger hunts, and more or have other ideas? Rain date will be Sunday, May 3rd.

CAMBRIDGE

Friends of Alewife Reservation invites you to their annual Earth Day/DCR Park Serve Day at the Alewife Reservation in Cambridge, MA.  Students, companies, families and individuals are all welcome to join on April 25th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Volunteers will work together to remove trash from the Reservation, maintain trails and improve the health of the ecosystem in this flood-plain region. CHELSEA

The Chelsea Collaborative is holding their annual Earth Day and Keep Chelsea Beautiful Day Clean-Up and Celebration on Saturday, May 2nd from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. We will be sweeping, picking up trash, planting trees and flowers and mulching throughout the city. Help us clean up the mess winter left behind!  We will be having a BBQ and community celebration after the clean-up. MALDEN & REVERE

Bike to the Sea, Inc. is partnering with the City of Revere and the City of Malden to clean a new segment of the Northern Strand Community Trail starting on the Malden Revere Town Line. Join us on Saturday, April 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday, April 25th. Access the trail from the public parking lot at the intersection of Wesley and Lynn St. and head east toward Route 1.

Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA) will host a river and park cleanup to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 25 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Friends of the Mystic River will host its 20th annual Mystic River Spring Cleanup on Saturday, April 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., meeting at the Hormel Stadium lot, 90 Locust Street.  Cleanup supplies will be provided. The cleanup will include the Mystic Riverbend Park and MacDonald Park, but participants may travel to any other location they wish along the Mystic in Medford. Morning and lunchtime refreshments provided. In the event of heavy rain on April 25, the cleanup will take place on Sunday, April 26.

Medford Community Coalition (MCC) is hosting a clean up of Medford Square on Saturday, April 25th from 2:00-4:00 p.m.  With the help of the Medford DPW, Green Medford, and the Medford Department of Energy and the Environment, the MCC will clean and beautify the square in honor of Earth Day and the arrival of spring!  Participants should meet at Burying Ground Plaza at the corner of Riverside Ave. and River St. in Medford Square by 1:45 p.m.

SOMERVILLE

Groundwork Somerville is hosting Comcast Cares Day with the City of Somerville on Saturday, April 25th from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Blessing of the Bay Boathouse, and 11 other sites around the City including South Street Farm, the Community Path and Union Square. Events will be followed by a BBQ at 12:00 p.m. at the Blessing of the Bay Boathouse on Shore Drive.

WINCHESTER

The Winchester Conservation Commission is sponsoring its annual environmental cleanup on Saturday, May 9 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Volunteers should meet at Town Hall Parking Lot, 71 Mt. Vernon Street, Winchester. Plastic bags and gloves will be provided.  Please come with clothing to cover your feet and arms.

MyRWA clean-upThinking about organizing a river clean-up?
Here are some things to consider: You’ll need gloves, trash bags, a dumpster or way to dispose of the garbage collected, and lots of volunteers.

Volunteers wanted in West Medford for ongoing monthly clean up of Lower Mystic Lake area. Join a dedicated group of neighbors who take turns cleaning up. Contact Barbara Van Zoeren bvanzoeren@comcast.net to get involved!
