ADVOCACY & OUTREACH
Through advocacy and outreach, MyRWA seeks to raise awareness of the Mystic River, its tributaries and watershed lands, better understand its problems and opportunities, and provide the tools that residents can use to help to restore and protect it. We depend on the enthusiasm, energy and commitment of volunteers for many of our activities. Many of our projects involve partnerships with community groups. See our list of partners here.
MYSTIC CAUCUS
There are currently 35 legislators who represent part (sometimes only a small part) of the Mystic River Watershed. Mystic River Watershed lawmakers work long and hard on issues that have significant impact in the environment. Your voice is urgently needed on Beacon Hill. Write or call your legislator and demand that our environmental agencies get the proper funding they need to protect our communities and our environment. Find your legislator here.
ADVOCACY
Foggy Morning on the MysticIn conjunction with MyRWA staff members, MyRWA’s Policy Committee is a group of committed volunteers that give a voice to the water, habitat, and wildlife in the Mystic River Watershed. We advocate for responsible development that supports clean water, existing habitat, and a healthy environment. We also make sure that developments are in compliance with environmental legislation. If you would like to join our policy committee, please contact us on-line, or by telephone at 781-316-3438.
MyRWA has also written comment letters after carefully reviewing the environmental impact reports submitted by the relevant parites. The comment letters were submitted during the public comment periods to the Attorney General, municipality, Conservation Commission and/or another relevant party. Read some of MyRWA's comment letters here.
To learn more about the Policy Committee please attend the next Committee Meeting, as indicated on the MyRWA calendar.
OUTREACH & EDUCATION
2005 Bucket BrigadeThe outreach and education program connects the public to the watershed. We promote an appreciation for the watershed by involving its residents in diverse activities. We organize projects such as shoreline surveys, and activities such as river and lake cleanups, our annual Mystic River Herring Run and Paddle, guided walks, and forums and lectures. In addition, we publish a bi-annual newsletter, the Mystic Messenger, to report on our activities and build support for the watershed. Get involved today!
