2012 marked the Mystic River Watershed Association's 40th Anniversary!
MyRWA's 40th Anniversary was a year to celebrate and promote the recreational opportunities of the Mystic as well as the water quality testing and environmental policy efforts that MyRWA has led over its forty year history. A dedicated group of volunteers planned the following events to bring additional attention to the watershed and the work of MyRWA.
40th ANNIVERSARY EVENTS
October 25, 2012 - MyRWA's 40th Anniversary Celebration and Annual Meeting
MyRWA capped off a year of special events and activities with the 40th Anniversary Celebration and Annual Meeting, “Telling the Mystic River’s Story,” at Anthony’s of Malden on October 25. We heard from keynote speaker Tim Purinton, Director of the Division of Ecological Restoration for the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game, had an awards ceremony which included hearing from founder Peter Braun, and enjoyed birthday cake. Thanks to all who attended!
September 8, 2012 - Meet Me at the Mystic
Paddling, Art and Music!
Over 100 people joined MyRWA staff and volunteers in an early morning cheer to the river and watershed – a resource that has brought so much enjoyment to our community. There was a full family-friendly schedule of events that stretched from the Mystic Lakes Dam, Medford, MA to Alewife Brook with artists and music along the banks for morning enjoyment. Boats were available at a discounted rental fee, while others brought their own to join in the fun.
Cyclists joined the fun by following the course of the river at a leisurely pace stopping to listen to the musicians along the way and sharing camaraderie with the paddlers in the river. They then proceeded further along the river exploring the new Alewife Brook Bike Trail to the Alewife T station.

Get energized and inspired! Join us for a 30-minute award-winning documentary film followed by a lively personal discussion with the film's central figure, world-renowned local citizen leader, Marion Stoddart. The film is an exhilarating success story of how one woman - Marion Stoddart, mobilized clean-up of one of America's most polluted rivers-for herself, for her community, and for future generation-and became a citizen leader honored by the United Nations. It's a gripping account of an ordinary person who realized her power to make a difference. Learn how Marion's story can be used here in the Mystic River Watershed!
